What do you really think of NUMB3RS?
Or more to the point, what do mathematicians think of NUMB3RS? For a partial answer, see the discussion on Ars Mathematica.
I've never seen the show and I keep forgetting to try and watch it. Maybe someday I'll catch it in reruns. That's how I've watched 99.9% of all television shows over the years. LOL.
Personally, I think it seems like they often work a little TOO hard to force the mathematics angle into the script, causing the stories to come off as a little clunky & disjointed. After you watch several episodes, it's feels like they're using mathematics like Batman's utility belt - a solution for every problem, no matter how far-fetched.
Still, it's good in small doses, and I'm glad Judd Hirsch has found a steady paycheck :-)
I think the show is fantastic. Good to see Hirsch on a weekly basis, and the math angle, while forced sometimes (How on earth did the FBI solve anything before Charlie??), still very entertaining...
